Belarus, Ukraine discuss tighter cooperation in monetary management

MINSK, 26 March (BelTA) – Representatives of the central banks of Belarus and Ukraine had discussed further enhancement of cooperation in monetary management and currency policy, representatives of the Information and Public Relations Office of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB) told BelTA.

The current economic situation and further enhancement of cooperation in monetary management and currency policy were discussed during the 13th session of the consultative board of the central banks of Belarus and Ukraine on 26 March. Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus (NBRB) Sergei Kalechits and Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Dmitry Sologub, other representatives of the two banks took part in the meeting.

Participants of the meeting discussed the implementation of the monetary management policy, results achieved by the banking systems of Belarus and Ukraine in 2017, and the development of the payment markets in the two countries. Cooperation with the central banks of the European Union was mentioned. The legal regulation and practical application of escrow accounts were discussed. The sides agreed to continue working together in personnel training and technical cooperation.

The first session of the consultative board of the central banks of Belarus and Ukraine took place in May 2002. The board was established with a view to assisting with the advancement of foreign economic relations between Belarus and Ukraine, the development of the currency markets and payments systems, with improving business operation terms. The board is supposed to prepare and organize the fulfillment of bilateral agreements on banking. The board also deals with routine problems in bilateral cooperation and shares the best practices.
