Belarus, UK call for combating ethnic and religious intolerance

MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarus and the United Kingdom emphasize the need to stand up against manifestations of ethnic and religious intolerance, racial discrimination, antisemitism and xenophobia. This matter was discussed at a meeting of Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei with UK's Special Envoy for post-Holocaust Issues, member of the House of Lords Sir Eric Pickles, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The parties highlighted the importance of the two countries’ efforts to commemorate people who died during the Second World War. They emphasized the need to look into the history, analyze and evaluate specific events. They urged countries and the entire international community to consistently rise up against ethnic and religious intolerance, racial discrimination, antisemitism and xenophobia,” the press service noted.

The Belarusian foreign minister informed the British MP about the recent commemorative events that took place in Minsk to mark the 75th anniversary of the destruction of the Minsk Ghetto. Vladimir Makei noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted an international roundtable session on this matter.
