Belarus, Turkmenistan to strengthen cultural cooperation

MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Turkmenistan will further develop cultural cooperation, Belarus’ First Deputy Culture Minister Irina Driga told BelTA. The prospects of cultural cooperation between the two countries were discussed during the Days of Belarusian Culture in Turkmenistan.

Irina Driga met with Turkmen Deputy Culture Minister Bakhargul Abdiyeva to discuss matters of prolongation of the intergovernmental program for cooperation in culture, mutual organization of Days of Culture, and signing of cooperation agreements between the cultural institutions of the two countries. Besides, they talked over the possibility of organizing study programs for Turkmen teachers and students at Belarusian art colleges and universities and exchanging tours of circus performers. The organization of the Days of Belarusian Cinema in Turkmenistan and screenings of Turkmen films in Belarus was also on the agenda. Turkmen filmmakers got an invitation to participate in international film festivals held in Belarus.

Turkmenistan is hosting the Days of Belarusian Culture from 6 through 12 December. The people of this country already had a chance to get acquainted with the Belarusian culture. In 2012, Turkmenistan played host to the Days of Belarusian Culture and the Days of Belarusian Cinema.

The Days of Turkmen Culture in Belarus were held in 2010 and 2014. A Turkmen circus troupe performed at the Belarusian State Circus in 2012.
