Belarus to focus on transit, logistics during CEI presidency

SARAJEVO, 13 December (BelTA) – During its presidency of the Central European Initiative (CEI) in 2017, Belarus will pay special attention to the work to increase the transit potential and develop the logistics systems in the member states, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said during the meeting of the heads of government of the Central European Initiative member states in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina on 13 December, BelTA has learned.

“We plan to focus on promoting compatibility in the region, supporting sustainable economic development, and expanding CEI’s network of international contacts. For instance, we would like to make a more targeted effort to develop the logistics infrastructure which is a key factor for trade, economic growth and stability,” the Prime Minister stressed.

The head of the Belarusian government believes that the countries of the Central European Initiative need to work together to eliminate bottlenecks in the transport infrastructure, improve transit capacity and logistics chains, and ensure a wider application of cutting-edge information technologies and solutions.

Belarus is also set to continue the effort started by Bosnia and Herzegovina to upgrade the CEI and adjust its activities to the common needs in the new regional context. “Belarus is ready to contribute to this process, including as part of the effort to draft CEI’s new action plan until 2020,” Andrei Kobyakov stressed.

Belarus is open for all-round constructive cooperation with all the CEI member states. “We plan to make full use of this additional opportunity to step up our interaction in the region, including at the high-level events to be held in Belarus in 2017,” the Prime Minister said.
