MINSK, 16 September (BelTA) – The participation of the observer states, dialogue partners, and specially invited countries in the economic cooperation developing within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be discussed at the meeting of ministers of economy and trade of SCO member countries hosted by the Chinese city of Xian on 16 September. On behalf of Belarus, attending the meeting will be Belarusian Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky, BelTA learned from the Economy Ministry of Belarus.

The participants of the meeting will also discuss ways to intensify the ties between the countries of the region, bolster investment, technical, and economic cooperation, and strengthen the interaction with international organizations. Besides, plans have been made to talk over the development of trade and economic cooperation in promoting the One Belt One Road initiative.

The participants of the meeting (heads of delegations) will hold talks with members of China's State Council in Beijing on 17 September.

BelTA reported earlier that the decision to grant Belarus the observer status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was made at the SCO summit in Ufa on 10 July 2015.

The Belarusian Economy Ministry stressed that Belarus views the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as an additional platform for developing dialogue between the leaders of the SCO member states. The ministry noted that the list of SCO members is incrementally growing. Belarus is eager to contribute to the economic cooperation within the SCO framework by offering its transit, industrial, and scientific potential. Moreover, the country is willing to take an active part in settling the issues related to regional security.
