Belarus to attend EBRD Annual Meeting in Warsaw on 14-15 May

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) - A Belarusian delegation will attend the EBRD Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors and the Business Forum to be held in Warsaw on 14-15 May. The delegation will be led by EBRD Deputy Governor on behalf of Belarus, Economy Minister Nikolai Snopkov, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus.

It is expected that the Board of Governors will consider the activities of the Bank to support the economic reforms in the countries of the region, and discuss new ways of encouraging investment and promoting the transition process for the future. The Belarusian delegation is set to meet with President Suma Chakrabarti, the management of the Bank, and representatives of several international financial institutions.

The Business Forum will be built around the theme “Changing Economies, Changing Lives”. Discussion will revolve around the profound transformation of the last 25 years – and will cast a probing eye on what the next 25 years will bring. It is expected to bring together more than 2500 participants from various countries. During the forum the Belarusian participants will conduct a series of business meetings and negotiations with representatives of international financial and investment companies, big and medium-sized businesses.

Belarus joined the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in 1992. The cooperation is based on the memorandum of understanding between the Government of Belarus and the EBRD dated 19 February 1993, and country strategies. In 2013 the Bank invested €255 million, which was a record high in the history of cooperation of Belarus with the Bank. In Q1 2014 this index was €124.4 million.
