Belarus supports Council of Europe's additional anti-doping measures

MINSK, 11 January (BelTA) - Belarus has ratified the Additional Protocol to the Council of Europe Anti-Doping Convention, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of Europe.

According to the press service of the Council of Europe, under the protocol, the Parties shall mutually recognize the competence of sports or national anti-doping organizations to conduct doping controls on their territory, in compliance with the national regulations of the host country, on sportsmen and women coming from other Parties to the Convention. The result of such controls shall be communicated simultaneously to the national anti-doping organization and national sports federation of the sportsman or sportswoman concerned, to the national anti-doping organization of the host country, and to the international sports federation. The Parties shall similarly recognize the competence of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to conduct out-of-competition controls on athletes.

In order to ensure compliance with internationally recognized standards, the sports or national anti-doping organizations be assessed by the Monitoring Group.

The Additional Protocol will come into force in Belarus on 1 May 2018. It has already been ratified by 29 countries (27 Council of Europe member states and two more countries, Belarus and Tunisia).

Belarus ratified the Anti-Doping Convention in 2006.
