Belarus suggests accelerating development of CIS common services market

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich voiced the proposals to accelerate the development of the CIS common services market at a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government in Ashgabat, BelTA learned from spokeswoman for the Belarusian government Olga Golgaya.

"The development of the common services market is a very complex issue. Even within the framework of the Single Economic Space it has not been solved completely yet. It would be good if we agree to prepare a draft agreement on the CIS common services market in 2015-2016, to ratify it and start its application in 2017,” said the Prime Minister.

Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed the need for coordination of customs services in combating smuggling and ‘grey’ import from outside the CIS. This, in his view, is important because "the customs perimeter of the CIS had not been firmly secured yet.”

The Belarusian head of government also made the proposal regarding the transport infrastructure, and noted that there are four major international corridors in the CIS zone of influence. "This certainly contributes to the development of free trade zones and other large-scale projects. All CIS countries should actively participate in this work and start making relevant decisions,” stated the Prime Minister.

The agenda of the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government included around 20 draft documents in various areas of cooperation. The heads of government reviewed the status of implementation of the provisions of the Free Trade Treaty as from 18 October 2011, and two important issues regarding the cooperation in nuclear energy. The first one was about the implementation of the interstate target program "Reclamation of the territories affected by uranium mining industries". The second one was the concept of nuclear and radiation security of the CIS member states in the peaceful use of atomic energy.

The meeting also discussed a number of documents aimed at further developing and strengthening humanitarian links within the CIS, including a plan of priority actions in the field of humanitarian cooperation for 2015-2016.
