Belarus-sponsored resolution in OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Baku declaration

MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) – A resolution on protecting and promoting social and economic rights in the OSCE region that Belarus had prepared was presented to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment during the 23rd annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The resolution was presented by Viktor Guminsky, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, who led the Belarusian delegation during the session, the press service of the lower chamber of the Belarus parliament told BelTA.

The resolution was unanimously adopted by participants of the session. The resolution will be made part of the Baku declaration that will be adopted during the final meeting of the 23rd annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, which takes place in Azerbaijan’s capital city on 28 June – 2 July.

The press service of the lower chamber of the Belarus parliament explained that the draft resolution is designed to draw attention to the problem of social and economic rights and to give an additional impulse to OSCE efforts in this area. The document welcomes the contribution of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to the discussion of current social and economic problems and the promotion of social and economic rights. The draft resolution also calls for the governments of the member states to take concrete measures to improve the social and economic situation. Meanwhile, the OSCE should expand cooperation in this field with international organizations and render assistance to member states in matters concerning the proper provision of social and economic rights, explained the press service of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly.

Apart from that, the Belarusian MPs took an active part in the operation of other general committees of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. Members of the Belarusian delegation outlined Belarus’ views on the main items on the international agenda and also presented a number of amendments to draft resolutions of the general committees. Most of the suggested amendments were voted through, said the press service.

Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Viktor Guminsky met with Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergei Naryshkin. The sides discussed bilateral cooperation in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. The sides exchanged views on some items on the session’s agenda. The Belarusian vice speaker also discussed the development of Belarusian-Montenegrin cooperation with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President, president of the parliament of Montenegro Ranko Krivokapic. The latter spoke highly of the participation of Belarusian MPs in OSCE PA events. The head of the Belarusian delegation spoke in favor of creating friendship groups in the parliaments of the two countries.
