Belarus, Serbia sign action plan on cooperation

MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Serbia signed an action plan on expansion of bilateral cooperation and a protocol of the 7th meeting of the Belarusian-Serbian intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation that took place in Minsk on 25 September. The documents were signed by Trade Minister of Belarus Valentin Chekanov and Minister for Regional Development and Local Self-Government of Serbia Igor Mirovic, BelTA has learnt.

As Valentin Chekanov told reporters, the delegation from Serbia brought concrete proposals to Minsk. “We discussed every proposal and elaborated our positions. All the proposals were included into the documents we have just signed,” he stressed.

The parties agreed to continue active work regarding joint production of MTZ tractors in Serbia. A joint Belarusian-Serbian company will start producing MAZ vehicles in Serbia in 2013. A lot of proposals were made to develop cooperation in agriculture, construction and energy. “Serbian counterparts have made a great deal of good proposals over the last five years. We think it will be a successful advancement of the tasks set forth by the Presidents of our countries,” the Trade Minister said.

Valentin Chekanov reminded the Serbian side about a mutual exchange of visits and stated that Belarus invited the Vice Premier and the Prime Minister of Serbia for a visit to the country. “There are plans that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will visit Serbia in late 2013 or early 2014,” he added.

Minister for Regional Development and Local Self-Government of Serbia Igor Mirovic noted that the parties signed two very important documents for both the countries: an action plan with concrete projects and a protocol of the meeting which, according to the minister, would give additional impetus to cooperation development. “We are grateful to people who have given a big impetus to our cooperation – these are our heads of state. The Serbian part of the intergovernmental commission, for its part, will do its level best to fulfill everything that is envisaged in the signed documents both on the markets of Belarus and Serbia and the markets of third countries,” Igor Mirovic stressed.

The parties discussed cooperation in culture, technology and science. “We would like to improve our cooperation in order to be proud of our ties. We will do everything possible to make our relations and joint work even better in the future,” the minister stressed.
