Belarus seeks closer inter-parliamentary cooperation with Brazil

MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian parliament shows interest in intensifying inter-parliamentary cooperation with Brazil, Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil to Belarus Paulo Antonio Pereira Pinto on 30 July, BelTA informs.

“We would like to have the corresponding group of friendship in order to develop cooperation between MPs of the two countries,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich. In his words, if the parliamentary delegation of Brazil is to visit Belarus this September, Belarus is ready to pay a lot of attention to the discussion of issues of mutual interest.

According to the Speaker, interregional cooperation could be another promising area of cooperation. “We do not rule out contacts at the federal level. However, we would be happy to build relations between regions,” Mikhail Myasnikovich noted.

In his words, Belarus and Brazil have been steadily developing bilateral cooperation. “At the same time the potential the two countries have is still untapped,” the Speaker said. He noted that, with the appointment of Paulo Antonio Pereira Pinto as Ambassador, Belarus has big hopes on the intensification of bilateral cooperation.

In turn, Mr Paulo Antonio Pereira Pinto stated that the relations of the two countries had made a considerable progress after the last meeting of the two Presidents. The Ambassador is confident that today’s meeting will become another step to boost cooperation between Belarus and Brazil.
