Belarus, Russia sign joint program in physical education, sports

MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – A joint meeting of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of Belarus and the Ministry of Sports of Russia was held in Minsk on 8 October. One of the main results was the signing of a cooperation program in the field of physical education and sport for 2013-2014. The document was signed by sports ministers of the two countries Alexander Shamko and Vitaly Mutko, BelTA learned.

The program provides for a set of measures to develop mutually beneficial cooperation of Belarus and Russia in the field of physical culture and sports, establish a system for joint training of athletes for international tournaments and to ensure the effective utilization of sports facilities in the two countries.

The program ensures close cooperation between government bodies in charge of physical education and sports, public sports organizations, regional sports organizations, and educational, scientific and medical institutions specializing in sport of Belarus and Russia.

The cooperation between educational institutions of higher professional learning will be continued. Interaction in the field of sports science, medicine and doping control will be stepped up.

The two countries will continue the practice of holding joint sporting events with the participation of national teams and clubs in various sports. Sports facilities will be used for these purposes.

Cultivating healthy lifestyle and involvement of Belarusians and Russians in sports are one of the important components of the Union State social development concept for 2011-2015. Special attention is paid to the younger generation and availability of sports services for citizens of the two states.

The meeting participants will also get familiar with the progress in the preparations for the 2014 IIHF World Championship and will visit Minsk Arena and Chizhovka Arena.
