MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – Abolition of roaming charges in the Belarus-Russia Union State was discussed by means of a videoconference involving representatives of the Communications and Informatization Ministry of Belarus, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, the anti-monopoly authorities, the Standing Committee of the Union State, the Embassy of Belarus in the Russian Federation, as well as Belarusian and Russian mobile network operators, BelTA learned from the press service of the Communications and Informatization Ministry of Belarus.

According to the ministry, the participants of the conference had a constructive discussion on the implementation of the relevant road map. The Belarusian side raised a number of issues related to the interaction between mobile network operators. These issues should be addressed as soon as possible in order to complete the work to scrap roaming charges by 1 October. This includes data transmission testing and joint efforts to detect and prevent fraud on telecommunication networks. The Russian side supplemented and supported these proposals.

Mobile service providers were tasked to complete data transmission testing and conclude anti-fraud agreements no later than 24 September.

In addition to that, senior officials of the Communications and Informatization Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation aligned their positions on the draft protocol decision on roaming abolition of the high-level group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State.

The parties agreed to hold the next video conference on this issue on 25 September.
