Belarus-Russia agreement on customs legislation ratified by lower chamber of Russian parliament

MOSCOW, 13 September (BelTA) – Russia’s State Duma ratified the Belarusian-Russian agreement on harmonizing customs legislation and on cooperation in customs affairs on 13 September, BelTA has learned.

Belarus and Russia signed the agreement in February-March 2022. The document has been worked out with a view to realizing the Union State program on harmonizing Belarusian and Russian taxation and customs legislation. The program was approved by Ordinance No.6 of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

Presenting the document, Russian Deputy Finance Minister Aleksei Sazanov explained the agreement provides for information interaction and mutual exchange of information between the customs service of Belarus and Russia. The agreement provides for setting up an interstate center for coordinating risk management work as part of the Customs Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The center will perform analytical functions and will monitor customs operations. The interstate center will be located in Minsk.

In line with the agreement the sides will be able to exercise joint customs control, organize interaction between mobile groups of the Belarusian customs service and the Russian one. Apart from that, there are plans to harmonize regulations concerning authorized economic operators.
