MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) - Belarus has received the observer status in the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC), BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Interior Ministry.
The extended meeting of the Council of the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center was held in Bucharest (Romania) on 30 May. Belarus received the status by a unanimous decision. SELEC Director General Toni Jakimovski commended the efforts of Belarus to ensure regional security, and welcomed the country's high activity in promoting international cooperation, including interagency cooperation with the countries of Southeast Europe. During the vote Belarus received the full support of the SELEC member states.
Following the vote, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Romania Andrei Grinkevich expressed gratitude to participants of the meeting. He said Belarus is interested in enhancing cooperation on a wide range of issues and the country’s intention to make a positive contribution to the achievement of the goals and objectives of the SELEC.
Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC) was created following the transformation of the SECI Southeast European Center for Combating Transborder Crime, which was established in Bucharest in 1999.
