Belarus PM in favor of equal competition conditions for Belarusian, Kaliningrad Oblast companies

MINSK, 2 December (BelTA) – Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich paid attention to unequal conditions created for the manufacturers from Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast at a meeting with Kaliningrad Oblast Governor Nikolai Tsukanov on 2 December, BelTA has learned.

The import of products from Kaliningrad Oblast went up 66% in 2014, the prime minister said. “We are concerned about the soaring import from Kaliningrad Oblast. All that is attributed to the fact that the preferences given to Kaliningrad Oblast companies create unequal competition conditions for Belarusian commodities,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

The prime minister remarked that the Eurasian Economic Commission does not take any measures to promote fair competition. Mikhail Myasnikovich added that he discussed the issue with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

The Belarusian head of government stressed that it is especially important to regulate this issue for the Belarusian economy, and especially for the Industry Ministry. It pertains to complex household equipment and other goods which are produced both in Belarus and Kaliningrad Oblast in completely different conditions. Mikhail Myasnikovich proposed the governor of Kaliningrad Oblast to join efforts to find a way out of the situation.
