Belarus parliament to step up cooperation with Iraq, Montenegro

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – Working groups on cooperation with the parliaments of Iraq and Montenegro will be set up in the Belarusian parliament. The relevant proposal was backed at the session of the Council of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on 28 January, BelTA has learned.

Chairman of the International Affairs Commission Nikolai Samoseiko explained that a strategy for the complex advancement of Belarus-Iraq relations is being implemented. The strategy envisages the establishment of a parliamentary group of friendship and the invigoration of interparliamentary contacts. The Belarusian side is supposed to be represented by seven MPs, added the parliamentarian. Nikolai Samoseiko went on saying that a similar procedure in the Iraq parliament is nearly over.

As far as Montenegro is concerned, BelTA has been told that in the past the Montenegrin side mentioned the openness of the Montenegrin parliament in cooperation with the Belarus parliament. The Montenegrin side had also initiated the establishment of friendship groups in the parliaments of both countries, reminded Nikolai Samoseiko. Twelve members of the lower chamber of the Belarus parliament are willing to become part of the group.

Apart from that, a delegation of the Montenegrin parliament is expected to visit Belarus in 2015. It will be led by President of the Montenegro Parliament Ranko Krivokapic.

Thus, the Belarus parliament will have a total of 58 working groups and two interparliamentary commissions.

Participants of the session of the Council of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus also took care of the matters concerning the invitation of Czech parliamentarians to visit Belarus. In 2014 a Belarus parliament delegation visited Czechia. The visit was positively received by members of the Czech parliament and representatives of business circles of Czechia. As a result of the negotiations and the visit on the whole several proposals were sent to Belarusian ministries, government agencies, and companies with a view to advancing bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, and investment spheres. These proposals were initiated by Czech MPs among other persons. “We plan to invite the Czech MPs to visit Belarus,” said Nikolai Samoseiko.
