Belarus optimizes diplomatic service to suit its economy priorities

MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – Belarus has optimized the diplomatic service to meet its foreign economy targets, Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei has told reporters on 8 July, BelTA has learnt.

Speaking about foreign economy prospects of Belarus, Vladimir Makei noted that the country is not going to abandon traditional markets, like Russia or the European Union where Belarus has been securing its foothold. “However, taking into consideration the unfolding global financial and economic situation, we deem it necessary to explore new markets, like Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Proceeding from this approach, we have optimized our diplomatic missions abroad,” Vladimir Makei said.

In his words, the head of state adopted and approved measures to strengthen diplomatic presence in the regions where Belarus has never been represented before or has been represented inadequately. “We held talks with representatives of countries located in the abovementioned regions. These talks have revealed great cooperation prospects with these states. We need to be proactive, sharp, and focused,” the minister said.

Vladimir Makei also spoke about backlog reduction targets. Diplomats are also involved in this matter, he noted. “We have already elaborated a cooperation scheme to assist domestic companies experiencing this issue. The head of state passed the necessary decree. Specific officials were assigned to the companies having significant backlogs,” he noted.

For example, the Foreign Minister has been assigned to Amkodor. “We have already met with the top executives of the company and have come up with a specific cooperation plan that is expected to help us handle the issue. The same cooperation scheme will be used for other companies,” Vladimir Makei underlined.
