Belarus, Oman to discuss cooperation in culture, art, archive keeping

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Oman are set to discuss cooperation prospects in culture and art and will share expertise and knowledge in archive keeping, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Culture Ministry.

A delegation of the Sultanate of Oman is on a visit to Belarus. The delegation is led by Chairman of Oman’s National Records and Archive Authority His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Dhawyani. The Omani delegation will meet with their Belarusian partners at the National Historical Archives of Belarus on 31 July.

According to Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management at the Belarusian Justice Ministry Viktor Kurash, Belarusian and Omani archivists will discuss archive acquisition, scientific and technical processing of documents meant for permanent storage, and the use of information technologies. “Keeping documents safe requires a great deal of work. This involves restoration, digitization, micrographic storage, upload of the funds of the National Historical Archives in the Internet, and maintaining the necessary microclimate in the archives. Belarus is actively using new solutions in archive keeping and is ready to share its expertise and knowledge with Omani partners,” he said.

Head of the International Relations and Information Support Department of Belarus’ Culture Ministry Ilona Nemova said that the delegation of the Sultanate of Oman will stay in Belarus till 2 August. “The representatives of Oman have already visited the Mir Castle and the Nesvizh Castle, the National Art Museum and the Great Patriotic War Museum. Negotiations at the National History Museum are scheduled for 1 August. The delegation includes Jamal Al Moosawi, Director General of the National Museum of the Sultanate of Oman that hosted an exhibition of the National History Museum “Belarus at the Crossroads of Civilizations” for a long time. On 1 July the delegation is scheduled to visit the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Lifestyle.

Diplomatic relations between Belarus and Oman were established on 23 July 1992. The legal framework of the bilateral cooperation is in the forming stage. The Belarusian culture minister visited Oman in March 2018 upon the invitation of Minister of Heritage and Culture, member of the Omani royal family Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said. The parties outlined specific joint projects in culture and signed memoranda of understanding in culture between the National History Museum of Belarus and the National Museum of the Sultanate of Oman.
