MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ membership in a number of the UN bodies was unanimously approved at the meeting of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations Organization on 23 April, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Dmitry Mironchik told media, BelTA has learnt.

Belarus was elected as member of the United Nations Population Fund, the UNICEF Executive Board, the Governing Council of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Executive Committee of the Programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN Committee for Programme Coordination.

Belarus, as part of these institutions, will work together with other countries on recommendations to address the current issues of global social and economic development, improve the situation of the social groups that require special protection and support, including children and refugees.

According to Dmitry Mironchik, as its priority goals in the UN Belarus plans to focus on the development and implementation of national, regional and global strategies and programs aimed at the efficient economic and social support of the population.
