MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – A delegation of Belarusian MPs led by Svetlana Gerasimovich, Chairwoman of the Permanent Commission of the Council of the Republic for Regional Policy and Local Government and head of the National Assembly’s working group for cooperation with the Parliament of Latvia, made a visit to Riga on 15-18 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
The Belarusian delegation held talks with Deputy Speaker of the Latvian Parliament Andrei Klementyev, MPs and members of the working group of the Latvian Parliament for cooperation with the National Assembly of Belarus. The MPs shared opinions on the current state of the inter-parliamentary dialogue and the urgent lawmaking issues of the two countries. “The sides confirmed mutual interest in the development of economic cooperation, border contacts, interaction in culture, education and tourism, final ratification of bilateral agreements regarding the international road traffic and ways to protect civil aircraft,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The MPs also met with the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of Latvia, representatives of the Latvian Investments and Development Agency, mayors of Riga, Jelgava and Jurmala. “They discussed cooperation with MPs in the facilitation of work with regions and towns of Belarus and Latvia with representatives of public organizations and local administrations,” according to the ministry.
