Belarus, Latvia consider free tours for 2021 IIHF World Championship visitors

Deputy Speaker of Belarus’ Council of the Republic Marianna ShchetkinaMINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – Belarusian and Latvian MPs discussed the possibility of arranging free tours in the two countries for the guests of the 2021 IIHF World Championship on 3 October, Deputy Speaker of Belarus’ Council of the Republic Marianna Shchetkina told the media following the negotiations with members of the Latvian Saeima, BelTA has learned.

Marianna Shchetkina remarked that the MPs touched upon the preparation of highways and put special focus on tourism as they discussed the upcoming event to be hosted by Riga and Minsk. “It would be great if the visitors coming to Latvia or Belarus could freely travel across both countries on a tour bus and explore all the historic sites,” the deputy speaker noted.

In general, the Belarusian and Latvian MPs considered a wide range of matters, among them regional and cross-border cooperation, prospects for investment in wood processing, pharmaceutics, and food industry. They also talked about the intensification of contacts between entrepreneurs. In this context, Latvia showed interest in the upcoming improvement of business environment in Belarus.

The MPs also agreed to review specific matters of bilateral cooperation at joint sessions of commissions. This decision was made to give an impetus to trade and economic relations and strengthen political cooperation which had entered a new level prior to the 25th anniversary of Belarus-Latvia diplomatic relations.
