Belarus joins EEU having solid economic base

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – Belarus enters the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) having a good economic base, Valentina Leonenko, a member of the Permanent Commission for International Affairs of the House of Representatives, said during the international conference “Eurasian Choice: Belarus 2014” on 17 June, BelTA has learnt.

“The Belarusian economy will be a helping hand in promoting integration, in particular integration in the Eurasian Economic Union. We have things to offer for the common market of the Troika,” Valentina Leonenko said.

In her words, since Belarus became an independent state, it has always advocated the restoration of contacts on the post-Soviet space. “During the time when we lived in one country we managed to build up a great foundation for the further integration. Not only political establishment, but also ordinary citizens of Belarus are in favor of integration,” she said.

Speaking about the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union Valentina Leonenko noted: “We are ready for deeper integration”.

Member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valery Shnyakin believes that the experience of the Union State might be taken into consideration while promoting the Eurasian Economic Union.
