Belarus is not to blame for transit of banned goods to Russia

MOSCOW, 10 December (BelTA) – The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) agreed that Belarus is not to blame for the illegal transit of goods that were banned in Russia, member of the EEC Council Sergei Rumas told reporters following the session in Moscow on 10 December, BelTA has learned.

According to Sergei Rumas, the participants of the session of the EEU Council concluded that Belarus strictly abides by all its obligations, including the commitments it undertook within the framework of the Customs Union, therefore Belarus is not to blame for the illegal transit. “There are mala fide companies in Russia, and maybe in Belarus, that took advantage of Russia’s decision to impose sanctions and started importing products using illegal schemes,” Sergei Rumas said. He noted that the legislation of the Customs Union was not ready to handle such a situation.

The participants of the session agreed that all the Customs Union member states should compile and synchronize the lists of bona fide suppliers and carriers that will be allowed to transit banned products via the territory of Belarus and Russia without obstacles.
