Belarus’ Investigative Committee, FBI discuss ways to step up cooperation

Photos of the Investigative CommitteeMINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – Possible forms and methods of stepping up bilateral cooperation in criminal law were discussed in Minsk on 28 August as Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Belarus Ivan Noskevich met with the legal attache of the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States of America Johannes Van Den Hoogen and U.S. Charge d’affaires to Belarus Robert Riley, BelTA has learned.

According to representatives of Belarus’ Investigative Committee, fight against cybercrimes, trafficking in persons, intellectual property infringements, organized crime, and drugs trafficking were mentioned among cooperation avenues.

Ivan Noskevich thanked the FBI representative for the legal assistance the American side provides for investigating crimes. Ivan Noskevich mentioned the importance of international cooperation in actions of Belarusian and American law enforcement agencies as they investigate various crimes, particularly high tech ones.

The official said: “You and I represent law enforcement agencies and understand that in modern conditions crimes go across state borders more and more often, that crimes represent a real threat to international security and necessitate adequate and concerted measures.”

In turn, Johannes Van Den Hoogen assured that requests for legal assistance in crime investigations from Belarusian law enforcement agencies will be duly processed.

U.S. Charge d’affaires to Belarus Robert Riley thanked the Investigative Committee for cooperation with the American side.

The meeting contributed to a constructive exchange of opinions about topical aspects of bilateral cooperation and to the definition of promising cooperation avenues.
