Belarus intends to bolster ties with African Union

MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) - Belarus intends to expand cooperation with the African Union, spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Dmitry Mironchik told a press briefing, BelTA has learned.

Agreement on cooperation was reached in the course of the visit of the Belarusian delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Valentin Rybakov to Ethiopia. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus met with Chairperson of the African Union Commission Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission confirmed the interest of the regional organization to develop cooperation with Belarus in economy, science and technology, education, agriculture and other areas. The parties agreed to intensify cooperation in certain areas. The parties also agreed to proceed with the preparation of a protocol on cooperation between Belarus and the African Union Commission which will outline the algorithm and tools of interaction.

Moreover, the Belarusian delegation met with the officials of the State Corporation METEC to discuss the prospects of setting up the facilities in Ethiopia to assemble Belarusian agricultural, automobile and road-building machines. Agreement was reached to speed up the preparation of a package of documents to resume the operation of the assembly plant of Belarusian tractors at Adama Agricultural Machinery Industry.
