Belarus in visa facilitation talks with more than 15 countries

MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – Belarus is in talks with more than 15 countries on the facilitation and abolition of the visa regime, Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei said in an interview to the STV channel, BelTA has learnt.

According to the minister, a visa-free regime was introduced with Turkey on 1 July 2014. The similar agreement with Mongolia entered force on 5 July. A visa-free regime agreement was signed with Ecuador on 20 June. “All in all, we are in talks to simplify visa procedures and abolish visas with more than 15 countries. Among them are the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and many more. Our goal is to fulfill the President’s instructions given at his annual State of the Nation Address in 2013. We should create favorable business conditions for the countries of our interest and secure the freedom of movement for our people with the countries we are interested in,” Vladimir Makei said.

“The first round of consultations regarding visa facilitation and readmission with the European Union has already taken place. We have worked out a certain platform for further work. Each party showed their viewpoint on the issue. The next round of consultations will be held in the near future. I think we will gradually progress in the area keeping in mind the fact that these agreements benefit the citizens of our countries and that they should have an equal non-discriminatory basis as it has been done by the EU in respect to other states,” the Foreign Minister said.
