Belarus, IMF agree to consider new program

NEW YORK, 24 September (BelTA) – Belarus and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have agreed to consider a possibility of a new program, Belarusian Premier Mikhail Myasnikovich told media following his meeting with IMF Deputy Managing Director Zhu Min in New York, BelTA has learned.

“The IMF mission will start working in Belarus in October. Our specialists will meet with the Fund’s experts to work out a document which final goal is a new IMF program for Belarus,” the Prime Minister said.

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, he stressed at the talks that the Belarusian side does not prioritize the allocation of funds. “We need cooperation with this organization to show a positive signal for private investors that could work in Belarus,” he said.

The IMF Deputy Managing Director also praised positive changes in the Belarusian economy and currency exchange regulations.

As the source in the Belarusian delegation told BelTA, the IMF takes a positive view at the opportunity of supporting structural reforms in Belarus and expressed readiness to work in this direction.
