MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with the rank of Under-Secretary-General Yury Fedotov have discussed joint efforts in combating illegal drug trade and trafficking in human beings, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The parties discussed interaction within the framework of the UNODC regional program for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine on combating crime and illegal drug trade. They welcomed a steadily high level of cooperation between Belarus and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
Vladimir Makei was glad to note that the UNODC provides support for Belarus anti-trafficking initiatives. The foreign minister also thanked the UNODC Executive Director for his contribution to the preparation of the international high-level conference “Preventing and Countering Terrorism in the Digital Age" and his participation in this conference.
This is the second working visit of the UNODC Executive Director to Belarus. The first visit took place in May 2013.
