MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) – Belarus, Egypt, and Qatar arranged an event dedicated to the establishment of the group of friends of the family in the UN headquarters in New York on 3 February, the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told BelTA.
Taking part in the event were representatives of 25 countries from various parts of the globe that are known as stout supporters of the traditional family and family values. Opinions about purposes of the group’s operation were shared during the event.
The heads of the permanent representative offices of Belarus, Vatican, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Yemen, Qatar, Libya, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Tajikistan in the UN underlined that as the basis of human civilization the traditional family should be the focus of attention of governments, the United Nations Organization and its agencies, and the civil society.
Participants of the event backed Belarus’ proposal in favor of informing the UN leadership — the UN Secretary General and the President of the General Assembly — about the establishment of the group of friends of the family and the distribution of the relevant address by members of the group as an official document of the UN General Assembly.
Participants of the meeting also agreed to work out the schedule for the group’s operation for 2015 soon.
