Belarus’ education system presented in Moscow

MOSCOW, 22 May (BelTA) - The Education & Career expo opened in the business and cultural center of the Belarusian Embassy in Russia on 22 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the diplomatic mission.

The program of the two-day event includes a presentation of the national education system of Belarus, roundtable meetings and negotiations between representatives of the academic and professional communities of Belarus and Russia.

Opening the exhibition, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia Yuri Yaroshevich noted that national education is traditionally one of the highest values of the Belarusian people. “The adult literacy rate is 99.7%, the coverage of the primary, secondary and vocational education of the employed population is 98%,” the diplomat said. “Enrollment of children in elementary and secondary schools, the number of students of higher educational establishments in Belarus is at the level of developed countries of Europe and the world.”

Yuri Yaroshevich noted that within the framework of the Belarus-Russia Union State Russia's citizens can seek admission, on an equal footing with citizens of Belarus, to budget-funded places in Belarusian universities. If they decide to study on a fee-paid basis, they are given the opportunity to receive an education of high quality for a reasonable price.

Head of the higher education department at the Belarusian Education Ministry Sergei Kasperovich stressed that Belarus seeks to provide educational services of the highest standard and quality. “We have preserved the best things from the Soviet educational system, and consistently adapt our model to the European system," he said.

The event was attended by representatives of the Belarusian Education Ministry, the Permanent Committee of the Belarus-Russia Union State, leading Belarusian and Russian universities and the International Association of Graduates of Belarusian Universities.

A framework agreement on cooperation between Masherov Vitebsk State University and the federal scientific center of physical culture and sports at the Russian Sport Ministry was signed ont eh first day of the expo.
