Belarus delegation to attend Nicaragua President inauguration ceremony

MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – A Belarusian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov is expected to attend an inaugural swearing-in ceremony of Nicaragua President Daniel Ortega, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told a press briefing on 5 January.

The visit to Nicaragua’s capital Managua is scheduled for 9-11 January. Apart from the inauguration ceremony, the Belarusian delegation is set to meet with representatives of ministries and agencies responsible for the foreign policy and international affairs, investments, finances, industrial development and trade.

According to Dmitry Mironchik, in January-November 2016 the trade between the two countries totaled $3.5 million. The Belarusian exports amounted to $3.2 million. “The figures are still not big enough. Belarus exports its agricultural equipment, products of mechanical engineering and heavy industry to Nicaragua,” said the spokesman.

In his words, supplies of other Belarusian mechanical engineering products are considered as part of efforts to boost the bilateral trade. Promising supplies can include trucks, road-building vehicles, electrical goods, agricultural products and equipment, products of the petrochemical sector (automobile tires and mineral fertilizers), pharmaceutical drugs and also services to train specialists for Nicaragua’s national economy.
