Belarus, Cuba to bolster economic ties, political dialogue

MINSK, 24 January (BelTA) - Belarus and Cuba take mutual interest in the development of the political dialogue, trade and economic cooperation. The matter was discussed at a meeting between Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Belarusian National Assembly Vladimir Andreichenko and Cuba’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Belarus Gerardo Suarez Alvarez on 24 January, BelTA has learnt.

Vladimir Andreichenko congratulated the Cuban Ambassador on the beginning of his diplomatic mission in Belarus. He pointed out a considerable contribution of the previous Cuban Ambassador to the development of cooperation between the two countries. “We appreciate this work very much,” Vladimir Andreichenko noted and expressed hope that Gerardo Suarez Alvarez will continue his predecessor’s efforts.

Vladimir Andreichenko underlined that Belarus and Cuba have all prerequisites and the political will to continue developing fruitful cooperation. The parliaments of the two states will facilitate this process.

The Cuban Ambassador conveyed warmest greetings from the President of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power and handed over a letter inviting Vladimir Andreichenko to visit the country in the capacity of the head of Belarus’ parliamentary delegation. Gerardo Suarez Alvarez expressed hope that this visit will foster the development of the dialogue between the MPs. The Cuban Ambassador thanked the Belarusian side for its support for the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five who are imprisoned in the U.S. The diplomat noted that Belarus and Cuba have the same views on many issues in economy and politics. “We also take considerable interest in the development of our friendly relations and consolidation of practical work of the legislative bodies. We will do out utmost to continue developing political and economic relations,” the Ambassador added.
