Belarus condemns terrorist attacks in Volgograd

MINSK, 31 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian Foreign Ministry resolutely condemns the series of cynical terrorist attacks in the Russian city Volgograd that have resulted in multiple human casualties. The statement has been released by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, BelTA has learned.

“We condole with the victims and relatives of the dead. We underscore our unity with Russia in fighting the evil that has no boundaries. We are convinced that these manifestations will fail to reach their goal — destabilization of the situation on the eve of the New Year celebration and the forthcoming Winter Olympic Games in Sochi,” reads the statement.

It is underlined that the goals declared by terrorists in any part of the world may differ, but in the end they result in nothing but sorrow and suffering of innocent people. “Voices in favor of understanding and justifying individual acts of terror are hypocritical and destructive. Terrorism cannot be separated by nationality, religion, or political reasons or justice or injustice of its organizers. The ideology of violence and extremism that results in terrorist manifestations in the end must be condemned by default,” reads the statement of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

Belarus approaches its participation in counterterrorism efforts with responsibility both on the global scale as the country interacts with relevant UN agencies and on the regional scale within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, in bilateral relations and in any other formats.

“We believe that the responsible approach by every state should result in an escalation of regional and international efforts, stronger practical instruments for counteracting terrorism across the board,” reads the statement.
