MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – On behalf of the Belarusian nation and on his own behalf Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko congratulated Canada Governor General David Johnston and Canadians on Canada Day and the 150th anniversary since the Canada Confederation was founded, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.
The congratulatory address reads: “We are truly grateful for the kindness and compassion demonstrated by Canadians, who were the first to come to the aid of our country after the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.”
The president remarked that this year Belarus and Canada celebrate the 25th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The 25 years represent a quarter of a century of solid friendship between the two nations. Alexander Lukashenko said he was confident that the relations will continue growing stronger and expanding in the future thanks to joint efforts.
