MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) – Belarus calls on the United Nations to actively combat attempts to politicize human rights, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Belarusian delegation to the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly took part in the interactive dialogue with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. During the event, Oleg Yermolovich, the head of the Main Division for Multilateral Diplomacy at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, called on the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to actively combat attempts to politicize human rights and consistently promote dialogue and cooperation in this area.
Apart from that, Oleg Yermolovich briefed the participants of the event about Belarus’ approaches to human rights protection. He recalled the recent meeting between Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The parties discussed concrete avenues of cooperation between Belarus and the OHCHR.
The Belarusian diplomat thanked the High Commissioner for the joint projects aimed at the development of cooperation between Belarusian government agencies, international organizations, and civil society with a view to promoting human rights. Oleg Yermolovich expressed hope for further constructive cooperation with the OHCHR, including within the framework of the UNDP Country Program for Belarus for 2016-2020 and the UNICEF Country Program for Belarus for 2016-2020 which represent an effective mechanism for protection and promotion of human rights.
