MINSK, 6 April (BelTA) – Belarusian embassies and consulates and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Belavia air carrier, the Transport and Communications Ministry, Healthcare Ministry, Sport and Tourism Ministry have helped 6,258 Belarusians return home since 14 March, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On 4-5 April, Belarus helped another 172 Belarusian nationals return home. Belarusians continued coming back from Austria, Germany, Georgia, India (Belavia’s special flight brought 57 people from New Delhi), Indonesia, Canada, Qatar, Moldova (19 Belarusians arrived by bus via a humanitarian corridor organized by the Belarusian embassies in Moldova and Ukraine), the Netherlands, Poland (33 people came back by bus arranged with support of the Belarusian Embassy in Poland which also helps Russian citizens), the USA, and Turkey.

“It is a shared challenge, and Belarus is not the only one who has taken this approach. In the current difficult situation a lot of countries help each other if possible,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted. For example, the UK helped evacuate a Belarusian citizen from a cruise ship in Brazil.

Belarusian embassies in Kenya and Qatar in association with the embassies of Australia, the UK, Canada, Russia, the USA, and other countries are working on ways to evacuate an international group of tourists, including 13 Belarusians, from the Seychelles.

BelTA reported earlier that several days ago representatives of several countries, including the UK and Sweden, thanked Belarus for performing flights which helped their citizens return home. For example, thanks to close cooperation between the foreign ministries and institutions, a charter flight of the Belarusian air carrier brought more than 70 nationals of Sweden, the USA, and other countries from Istanbul. The only routes to Stockholm and the USA ran through Minsk.
