Belarus, Armenia to coordinate positions in interparliamentary organizations

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Armenia will pursue a coherent policy in interparliamentary organizations. The relevant agreement was reached during the seventh session of the Belarus-Armenia interparliamentary commission in Minsk on 11 July, BelTA learnt from the press service of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.

“The Belarus-Armenia interparliamentary commission has agreed to coordinate the two countries’ positions on certain matters discussed within the framework of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the CSTO and the OSCE Parliamentary Assemblies. The sides have plans to provide assistance to each other in acquiring the observer status in the interparliamentary organizations with which both countries would like to cooperate,” the press service noted.

The session also discussed the ways of intensifying trade and economic relations between Belarus and Armenia. “The sides believe that MPs should participate in the work to bolster trade and economic ties, diversify the cooperation in this area and establish more intensive business contacts between the two countries. The sides agreed to appoint their plenipotentiaries from the interparliamentary commission to work in the Belarus-Armenia intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation,” the press service of the House of Representatives stressed.

On 11 July a delegation headed by Vice President of the National Assembly of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov visited Belarus to partake in the session of the Belarus-Armenia interparliamentary commission. Later in the day Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko met with the Armenian delegation. During the meeting the sides voiced the intention to foster the new forms of the Belarusian-Armenian trade and economic cooperation such as joint ventures and assembly facilities.

The visit of the Armenian parliamentary delegation will conclude on 14 July. The MPs are set to visit Brest and Minsk Oblasts.
