MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei met with Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission, in Brussels on 31 May, BelTA learned from the Delegation of the European Union to Belarus.
Vladimir Makei and Federica Mogherini exchanged opinions about Belarus-EU cooperation and the work done after the Eastern Partnership Initiative summit, which took place in Brussels in November 2017. The sides discussed the state of affairs with regard to new, tailor-made partnership priorities between the EU and Belarus and agreed to accelerate their completion, which would become an important building block for the bilateral relations.
Apart from that, cooperation in nuclear safety was discussed, in particular, the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant near Ostrovets.
Federica Mogherini reconfirmed the European Union's commitment to a stable, democratic and prosperous future for Belarus for the benefit of its people and will continue working with all stakeholders towards this goal. The EU is launching the first country-wide communication campaign focusing on the benefits of EU-Belarus cooperation for the Belarusian people and highlighting concrete results of EU-funded projects in the fields of economic growth, energy efficiency and health, BelTA has been told.
