Concern over employment opportunities for young Belarusians with special needs

MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – The problem of getting employment for young people with special needs will be looked into. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he visited a boarding school for children with hearing difficulties in Minsk on 1 September, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Lukashenko told the school students: “Certainly, we are concerned what way in life you will choose later on and how your destiny will unfold. I promise you are not going to have problems with it. We have agreed that the government will once again look into the problem of employment so that all of you could find your place in life, so that you could work and earn a living for yourself and your children.”

The President said that sometimes companies are unwilling to take on young people with special needs. “I have not been told specific facts but I am told such things happen. We will surely find and remove these barriers. Because we cannot but support you, who so strongly aspire to become part of this life,” noted the head of state.

During the tour of the boarding school Alexander Lukashenko was made familiar with the physical infrastructure of the education institution, education and accommodation conditions for the students. The President was informed about the readiness of education institutions for the new academic year and the development of the special education system in Belarus.

The head of state also attended a festive concert timed to Knowledge Day (1 September). After the event students of the boarding school presented a commemorative gift to Alexander Lukashenko.

The head of state presented textbooks to first-form students and a multifunctional interactive display made by OAO Horizont to the school. The display is fitted with special educational programs for children with impaired hearing.
