Positive trend registered in Belarus’ exports

MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) – There is a positive trend in the export of domestic industrial products to foreign markets, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Guryanov said at a meeting of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers, BelTA has learned.

The government members considered the measures adopted by the government bodies and organizations to increase and diversify the exports of goods and services in January-May this year.

According to him, despite the difficult situation on the markets of the CIS countries, the export of domestic industrial products to these markets has been growing. The export to African countries rose too. "Our exports have increased to 22 foreign countries, including Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Afghanistan, etc.," said Alexander Guryanov.

He also praised the efforts to expand the geography of pharmaceutical export, which was made possible through the active development of markets of Mongolia, Vietnam, Georgia, and thanks to the work to register domestic drugs in Africa and Asia.

Yet, not all export projections were met in the period under review. The situation with the export of services is slightly better than with the export of goods.

At the same time, in January-May there was a decline in the import of goods and services which was due not only to the economic factors but also the specific measured taken on the domestic market of Belarus, Alexander Guryanov said.

The deputy minister stressed: "The situation on the markets does not depend on us. We have to adjust to the existing conditions." "The turmoil in financial markets, and the restrictive measures impact the foreign trade of the Republic of Belarus,” said Alexander Guryanov. “In this regard, the country has adopted a number of measures and has noticeably stepped up the effort to diversify the export,” he noted.

“We cannot recover the export fully. But still we have has some positive results,” said the deputy minister. "We have a foreign trade surplus. The situation with the foreign receivables is improving. Progress has been made by many industries to develop new markets," he added.
