Mogilev Oblast, Lithuania to focus on investment business, interregional cooperation

MOGILEV, 2 March (BelTA) - Mogilev Oblast and Lithuania will put a special focus on investment business and interregional cooperation. The statement was made during a meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to Belarus Andrius Pulokas and Chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Domanevsky in Mogilev, BelTA has learned.

Andrius Pulokas said he was impressed with the successful operation of the woodworking cluster in the FEZ Mogilev with the participation of Lithuanian IOOO VMG Industry. “This is a good example of business development and a stimulus for other businesses to invest in Belarus’ economy,” the Ambassador noted. Andrius Pulokas also said that Mogilev Oblast and Lithuania share many other interests: alternative energy, household waste recycling and processing of agricultural products, improvement of housing and utility services along with cultural, educational, sports and tourism cooperation.

Chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Domanevsky confirmed the region’s interest in further development of economic relations and proposed a number of investment projects. Among them are the projects to set up plants to produce corrugated fiberboard, modern reinforced concrete structures and to recycle and dispose of household waste and process vegetables. “There are many ideas and proposals for cooperation. But in order to realize them we need to boost business cooperation, develop interregional collaboration, revitalize relations between Mogilev and Klaipeda and set up a partnership between Bobruisk and a Lithuanian city. “I am sure that it will give an impetus to our cooperation and will promote efficient economic development and rapprochement between the two nations,” Vladimir Domanevsky underlined.

The chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee suggested holding an international conference on the timber industry with a focus on environment and green economy in Mogilev next year. Vladimir Domanevsky also invited the Lithuanian Ambassador and the Lithuanian business to take part in the International Investment Forum Mill of Success due in Bobruisk in June.
