MINSK, 15 July (BelTA) – Naftan Oil Refinery is of strategic importance for the country's economy and therefore cannot be privatized, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with top officials and executives of Vitebsk Oblast, BelTA has learned.
The president touched on the development of the production potential of the region. Much has been done on this front in recent years. Largest enterprises have undergone modernization. One of them is Naftan Oil Refinery.
“During this five-year period, Naftan has upgraded its technological units. The company is one of the flagships of the Belarusian oil refining industry. There are still many who want to buy it, as well as other well-performing enterprises. But this enterprise is of strategic importance for us. This is export, foreign exchange earnings, economic security of the country. Therefore, of course, there is no privatizing of this enterprise,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
“We have been consistently upgrading this enterprise to reach the highest level of oil refining,” the president added.
