Hope for Belarus-Russia trade growth in 2017

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – The trade between Belarus and Russia can increase significantly in 2017, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov told the media on 20 December.

“The economic situation in the Russian Federation starts turning for the better, the market is gradually opening. Being an export-oriented country, Belarus has been increasing exports. We believe that the bilateral trade will be gaining momentum in 2017,” Alexander Surikov said.

In his words, the adoption of the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will further advance the mutual trade. It is expected that the document will be signed in Moscow on 26 December. “The Code will remove the existing barriers to the free movement of goods and services, and will expand areas for mutual trade in goods and services. This, in turn, will create favorable conditions for setting up more joint companies both in Russia and Belarus,” the diplomat added.
