Belarus eager to cooperate with Eastern Partnership Initiative countries in transport, energy

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to cooperate with Eastern Partnership Initiative participating states in matters of transport and power engineering. Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov made the statement during the eighth round of informal ministerial dialogues of the Eastern Partnership Initiative in Yerevan, Armenia on 17 November, BelTA has learned.

During the plenary session the head of the Belarusian delegation outlined the main priorities in Belarus’ interaction with the European Union. The official also explained Belarus’ approaches to cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Initiative. Focus was made on the advisability of implementing more projects within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Initiative, particularly in the area of transport and power engineering.

Attention was also paid to discussing the progress in implementing the agreements reached as a result of the summit in Riga. The sides also talked about prospects of expanding cooperation of the partnering states with the European Union taking into account the revision of the European Neighborhood Policy and expectations surrounding the Eastern Partnership Initiative summit, which is scheduled to take place in Brussels in H2 2017.

Participants of the meeting also discussed topical matters concerning international security and the situation in the region.
