Belarus, Croatia sign intergovernmental agreement on economic cooperation

MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) – The status of implementation of the Croatian-Belarusian intergovernmental agreement on economic cooperation will contribute to the growth of bilateral trade, Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna said after the signing ceremony in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

In accordance with the agreement, the two countries will set up an intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation. Alena Kupchyna expressed hope that the membership of the commission will be approved soon and the first meeting of this important intergovernmental body will be held.

Minsk played host to the political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia. According to Alena Kupchyna, consultations are another indication of positive momentum in the relationship. Belarus and Croatia are interested in a broad dialogue, with emphasis on trade, economic and investment cooperation, and on cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism and sport.

The Croatian delegation headed by First Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Mr. Josko Klisovic includes representatives of 28 companies. They will take part in the Belarusian-Croatian Business Forum and business matchmaking on 9 June.

Belarusian-Croatian trade totaled $19 million in 2014. In 2008, it was $ 07 million. In January-April 2015, the trade was on the rise, including thanks to regional business forums. The trade in goods rose by 30% and the trade in services went up nearly twice.
