VILNIUS, 21 May (BelTA) – The first Belarusian-Lithuanian regional cooperation forum will be held against the background of rising economic cooperation between the two countries. In Q1 2012 alone Lithuanian investments in Belarus amounted to about $45 million, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Lithuania Vladimir Drazhin told BelTA.
The first Belarusian-Lithuanian regional cooperation forum will take place in the Belarusian town of Molodechno on June 7-8. It will gather about 120 representatives of Lithuanian business circles. The forum will be timed to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The 8th international Belarusian-Lithuanian economic forum that took place in Grodno in late April was also dedicated to the anniversary. Vladimir Drazhin said cultural events will be arranged. “We have decided to get residents of Lithuania’s bordering area familiar with the excellent folk music ensemble Khoroshki that performed successfully in Visaginas, Salcininkai, and Druskininkai last week”. A month of Belarusian culture will be held in Lithuania in September-October.
The regional cooperation forum that Molodechno will host will get Lithuanian businessmen familiar with results of regional economic cooperation between the two countries and plans to step up cooperation. “We are living through a good period in the economy: in Q1 2012 Lithuanian investments in Belarus were close to $45 million. We welcome it and will encourage it. If we compare it with the figures we started at when we couldn’t even raise $10 million per annum, we have made a leap forward”.
