Rene Fasel: 2014 IIHF World Championship will take place in Belarus

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) – President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Rene Fasel assured that the 2014 IIHF World Championship will be held in Belarus as it was planned before, according to the RIA Novosti.

In late March the European Parliament MPs called upon the EU national ice hockey federations to include the issue of revoking Belarus from hosting the 2014 IIHF World Championship into the agenda of the IIHF congress in May.

“I think the tournament will be held in Belarus. I am confident we will be there,” Rene Fasel told the R-Sport news agency. He stressed that the Helsinki congress would decide the fate of the annual tournament if the issue is included into the agenda of the meeting.
