Belarus' draft law on mass media undergoing fine-tuning

Belarus' draft law on mass media undergoing fine-tuning

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – The draft law on mass media is being fine-tuned, Belarus’ Deputy Information Minister Pavel Legky said at a press conference, BelTA has learned.

“The draft law passed the first reading. There were quite a lot comments and proposals. Now we are considering them,” the deputy minister said.

According to him, both the Information Ministry and relevant commission of the House of Representatives are working on this. It is not a behind-the-closed-doors work. Representatives of public organizations will be involved. During roundtable meetings, as part of the working groups they will discuss specific details, innovations, comments and suggestions proposed by the Belarusian Association of Journalists, MPs, journalists, and ordinary people who, being active members of the society, have also sent their comments and proposals. Government organizations, state mass media have also submitted their suggestions,” Pavel Legky said.

The deputy minister did not rule out that the draft law will be significantly amended by the second reading and will differ from the draft that passed the first reading. “This is quite possible taking into account the work underway,” he noted.
