Advancing relations with Belarus named important priority for Ukraine

Advancing relations with Belarus named important priority for Ukraine

KIEV, 21 July (BelTA) – Advancing relations with Belarus is one of the most important priorities for Ukraine. Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko made the statement during the expanded-participation negotiations with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 21 July, BelTA has learned.

Petro Poroshenko said: “I am convinced that the advancement of close relations with neighboring countries, primarily with Belarus, remains a most important priority for us.”

In his words, it is vital to fully realize the potential of Belarus-Ukraine cooperation. “Today you’ve come on a very important official visit to Ukraine. The visit is meant to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between our countries,” stressed Petro Poroshenko.

Petro Poroshenko also noted the productive nature of the previous meeting of the two heads of state in April 2017. The agreements, which were reached back then, are being consistently and successfully implemented.

“As you’ve said already, the number of contracts signed during today’s business forum alone has recouped our visits. This is why, although our friendship cannot be measured with money, it is vital for our countries to get concrete results on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation,” said the Ukraine president.

The Ukrainian head of state also suggested moving as fast during today’s talks in order to sketch out a fundamental roadmap for advancing the bilateral cooperation across the board and set the relevant goals.

Petro Poroshenko told Alexander Lukashenko that the Belarus president is always a welcome guest in Ukraine.

“I am convinced that Ukraine knows you as a statesman intent on achieving most effective and concrete results,” stressed the Ukraine president.

Petro Poroshenko went on saying that what he had said was confirmed by the composition of the Belarusian official delegation, which included many ministers. “It underscores the strategic nature of our political relations,” said Petro Poroshenko.
